The China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation – Sinopec’s 4,000 tonne capacity XCMG 88000 crawler crane has completed its first ever lift outside of China.

The crane lifted and placed a 1,926 tonne washing tower vessel at the $700m ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol III plant being built by Sabic, and manufacturing affiliate United, which has awarded the contract to Samsung Engineering. The vessel is the heaviest of three vessels that the crane will lift on this project. It was rigged with 102 metres of dual boom, topped by a dual 27 metre jib. GHHL’s 1,750 Terex Demag CC-8800 crawler crane was used to tail in the vessel, with the lift taking a total of five hours.

It has already demonstrated its capabilities in multiple key projects within China, and we are confident that the world's largest crawler crane will continue to achieve success in the international market."

The 1,926 tonne lift took five hours to complete

The crane, which was a joint development between Sinopec and XCMG, went into service in 2013 First job for 4,000 tonne XCMG and has completed 150 heavy lifts on 11 projects all over China travelling around 30,000km in the process. This 12th project is the first international job for the world’s largest crawler crane and will shortly lift two 1,312 tonne reactors into place, before moving to the GAS-P9 air separation project for Sabic owned National Industrial Gases Company elsewhere in the Kingdom, followed by lifts at the DUQM oil refining project in Oman.
