A tower crane operator was discovered yesterday on a site in Vienna, Austria, a day after he had collapsed
It seems that the man – a Hungarian national aged 62, had collapsed the day before some 40 metres above the ground, either in his cab, or more likely while he was climbing down the tower at the end of his shift. Sadly no one had noticed or checked on him before the entire site had clocked off for the day and locked the gates. It was only when people arrived on site early yesterday morning that they discovered him.
The body of the deceased operator is recovered
His co workers immediately called the emergency services to the site in the Hietzing area of the city. The fire brigade arrived with a rescue platform and were able to bring him down using a rescue bucket, but clearly it was too late to do anything to help him.
An investigation into exactly what happened has been launched.
