Hong Kong based crane rental company Set Win Group has taken delivery of the first 450 tonne, eight axle Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 All Terrain crane to arrive in Asia. The company also has a 500 tonne eight axle LTM 1500-8.1 Liebherr All Terrain crane on order, for delivery later this summer.

The handover ceremony to Set Win managing directors Alan and Raymond Kan took place during the Liebherr Customer Day in Hong Kong. Liebherr launched the LTM 1450-8.1 at Bauma 2016, at the same time as Set Win was looking to expand its range with an eight axle crane.

The new crane has an 85 metre and can travel in a ready to work state, ideal for the congested city and surrounding region. The crane includes the VarioBase outrigger set up system which matches a load chart to the actual outrigger set up selected, and the VarioBallast variable counterweight system.

The company has acquired the crane with a variety of work in mind, including tower crane assembly, lifting steel structures and prefabricated concrete parts, as well as the installation of air conditioning systems and generators on high rise buildings.

Alan Kan of Set Win Motors said: "VarioBase and VarioBallast have proven even more useful in practice than we initially thought. These systems open up a whole new range of possible uses. Another advantage of the crane is that not only can it be ballasted at the front, but also at the rear end of the undercarriage. That makes things significantly easier on constricted sites. Very little was known at the time about the LTM 1450-8.1. prior to our visit to Bauma. We knew that it would have a long boom and that the overall concept was relatively simple. We trusted Liebherr to develop a great product and invested in it. The final design and lifting capacities exceeded our expectations."

"The two Liebherr eight axle cranes will supplement each other and form an unbeatable pairing. We trust in Liebherr because we can rely on excellent service here in Hong Kong. Service engineers are available at all times and the main spare parts are in stock. The staff are very helpful. Furthermore, the resale value of Liebherr cranes is higher than other makes."
Set Win runs a fleet of 25 cranes, 20 of which are Liebherr.
