The crane a 300 tonne Liebherr LTM 1300-6.1 owned by Xcaliber Crane and Rigging, had been set up outside of the Dr Margaret Ann Armour school on the south side of Edmonton, Alberta, the operator was said to be running through safety checks and had raised the mostly retracted main boom from its trailing boom dolly to full elevation, and as the counterweight slewed over one of the rear outriggers the jack punched through the surface and sank causing the crane to tip over rearwards.

Thankfully on one was hurt in the incident, even though the crane cab was damaged, and damage was limited to the crane and the ground. The Alberta Labour and Immigration department and Occupational Health and Safety inspectors are investigating the incident.
