USA truck maker Mack Defense has launched a 40 tonne capacity all-terrain crane, the ATC-40T, for the United States Army.

The Mack Defense ATC–40T is a collaboration with USA truck manufacturer Mack Trucks and crane manufacturer Manitowoc, which has been producing cranes for the US market since the 1950s. The ATC–40T is based upon Mack Trucks’s commercially available Granite chassis. The crane has a capacity of 40 tonnes and, according to Mack Defense, it is designed to work in severe or hostile conditions.

The cab is based on the Mack Granite cab. Operator aids include a load moment indicator and alarms if the user exceeds weight, height or boom extension. An armoured operator cab can be specified.

“Mack Defense and Manitowoc are proud to introduce the ATC–40T, which was engineered to meet the evolving needs of the US Army,” said David Hartzell, president of Mack Defense. “Our partnership brings together best-in-class commercial equipment from both companies, leveraging off-the-shelf solutions to create a better overall value proposition.

“Most parts for the current 30-year-old US Army crane are no longer manufactured. With the ATC-40T, parts are commercially available, which helps to not only expedite production and delivery but also helps standardise training, maintenance and logistics.”
