UAE-headquartered heavy transport specialist Al Faris has transported what it describes as, “the biggest and heaviest buoy in the world”. The turet buoy weighed 455 tonnes, had a height of 16 metres, and a diameter of 18.3 metres.

The load was transported using four files of 16 axle lines of Goldhofer SPMT (self-propelled modular transporter). Al Faris says the project took detailed planning and the route was analysed and surveyed by its technical team.

Technical support documentation, execution plans, route analysis report and HSE protocols were prepared in-house and discussed with the client prior to project execution, Al Faris explained.

The company reports that the biggest challenge during transportation was manoeuvring the SPMT with the load along narrow routes, through bottle necks and around sharp turns. In addition, it had to manage traffic diversions. The company says its team of engineers and technicians carried out the operation smoothly, safely and efficiently.
